#06: Astral Projection (32:09)

Whether entranced saints or dreaming sages, mystic literature is riddled with references to lucid dreaming, out-of-body experiences and nightly apparitions. Rising through the planes of existence, the skilled mystic leaves the material plane and aspires towards the source of all things to seek council from the universal mind.
In this episode of Chasing Hermes, we take a look at some noted dream mystics throughout history and give some tips on how to learn to astral project yourself.
Some great resources:
Historical accounts mentioned on the show:
- 2 Corinthians 12
- Letter 159 from St. Augustine
- Theresa of Avila, St. Joseph of Cupertino and other flying saints

Your understanding of the Catholic mystical experience seems pretty poor. I hope the Light shines on you one day.

Hi John,
first of all thank you for your interest in the podcast and for your comment. I presume you are referring to our coverage of the flying saints. The christian mystics was not the focus of this episode and so this anecdote did not receive the detail of exposition that it perhaps deserved... The mystical experiences of St Theresa of Avila and in the writings of her close friend St John of the Cross are extremely interesting and worthwhile topics of study. Perhaps we will be able to return to these in a later episode.
Regards
Jason

Thanks. You guys are obviously intelligent. You are a cut above what one usually finds when searching the internet for things related to "the world beyond the physical senses."
If you are interested in some of the fundamental principles of Catholic/Christian mysticism, I suggest you begin with the paradox of the victorious cross.
This paradox is what makes the difference between Saint Cupertino dying sick in bed, refusing to pray for his own healing, and Simon Magus dying in a desperate attempt to prove he is God.
In any case, I'll keep listening to the podcast. Pray for light!

Greetings,
Thanks for listening to the show!
Concerning the two induction CD's at http://www.personal-magic.com/products_audio.htm - "Astral Fire" & "Lucid Dreaming" - I have tried them both, and have had perfect success with each. I think the best one for you to start with would be the one that speaks to you the most intuitively.
In other words, what do you believe you are more likely to be successful at? Lucid dreaming, or astral projection? Ultimately they will lead you to the same types of experiences - eventually. However, some people prefer the idea of becoming awake within their dreams, and others prefer getting up early in the morning and project from their bed.
Both CD's are equally effective. You just have to remember to give them some time and dedication so that your subconscious mind can be adjusted to accept the new reality and your new abilities.
I hope that helps a bit.
Regards,
Sean

I really like your show! Astral Projection has been a goal of mine for a while but sadly no success to date.
I like the laid back but knowledgeable way info is presented.
Thank You

I have those paralyses -- have had since teen years. Can be quite scary. I used to attribute them to the naughty doings of fairies.
Last week had one -- in it I was pestered by a ghost. This time, though, I used my constant prayer (out of hesychasm) spontaneously, and it 'unlocked' me and I also woke up immediately. Very surprised. Also comforted.
Looking forward to trying to 'float out' next time the paralysis sets in.
Thanks guys.

I meditate now and then and have had strange sensory experiences. One of them was of my body being made up of balls violently vibrating together. And that noise you describe in the podcast. I nearly fell off my couch when you described it. I had no idea at the time what it meant or what the possibilities might be. Should it happen again, I will try and take a 'walk'.
